Again Bobby Akart has done his research! This book will definitely make you realize you can’t mess with Mother Nature. I knew Yellowstone was full of mud pots and small eruptions and had stood and watched them as a child but I had no idea what a caldera was until reading Yellowstone Hellfire. With Hawaii and the Kilauea volcano being front and center on the news, I considered myself lucky I didn’t live there. I now know that no matter where I live disaster is just an eruption away. As with all of Bobby Akart’s books the scientific research is right on the spot and is an education in it’s own right but interwoven with the science is a great story with unforgettable characters and heart stopping action.The Prologue introduces us to Dr. Ashby Donovan and explains what has led her to her position as one of the best volcanologists in the world but also has left her with deep personal scars that drive her every day. Chapter 1 introduces us to Jake Wheeler, a Yellowstone Law Enforcement Ranger, who while fighting a forest fire in Yellowstone when he first discovers a fissure and the first sign of lava or as Jake puts it “Hellfire”. The characters mesh together in a perfect way and make you want to see them succeed in what becomes a battle against Mother Nature. But the star of Yellowstone Hellfire is the Yellowstone Caldera that will leave you breathless and praying that it never blows again even though almost all scientist believe it and maybe sooner than later.The pictures Bobby draws with words are scary as can be but from scientific history we know that it has happened in the past and that it can happen again.
